Aloha and Welcome to ASWA Hawaii!

The tax season for the 2008 returns is officially here. February will be a busy month for our members. For the next two and a half months, we will be working on the tax returns for our clients, for friends, family and ourselves.

What makes this tax season especially challenging is a number of new tax rules that effect the calculation of income taxes for this filing season. During 2008, there were 9 bills passed and there were various court cases and regulations issued to provide some additional guidance. Congress opened a debate on emergency economic stimulus measure so we know more changes are coming to the area of taxation.

Good news is that Darryl Nitta Tax Manager from Accuity LLP is our speaker for the February general meeting. Darryl will be speaking to us about Federal Tax Updates, so don't miss this timely talk. The meeting will be held on February 24th at Plaza Club. The registration and networking start at 11:30 and the meeting starts at 12:00 noon. See you there!
